When Do you need to talk to a lawyer?
This is a question a lot of people ask themselves when it comes to family law matters.People often think that talking to a lawyer is a bad thing. They are afraid, that that means they will be ending up in court, or at least in a prolonged conflict with their ex-partner. It does not have to be that way! If you talk to a lawyer, who works towards an amicable solution and has a collaborative approach, like us, you don’t have to end up in court.
Some people get scared and avoid seeing a lawyer. This can sometimes have the consequence, that things escalate and they actually end up in a prolonged conflict with their ex-partner, be it about the children or a property settlement.Don’t leave it until it is too late!!!
Even if you are not ready to start the process, there is always a benefit to understand the legal process. It is going to be a clear benefit to you, to know your options, and what steps need to be taken. That way you can have clear discussions and negotiations with your ex-partner, and hopefully avoid going to court. It will help you for instance, to understand the differences between court proceedings by way of Litigation or Consent Orders, or what a Binding Financial Agreement is. Once you understand this, you can then decide which option is the best one for you in your situation.
The earlier in the process you understand your options, the better you can navigate the process and the discussions with your ex-partner. You can then sort out your matter and move on with your life.
